Hi
I see now how the Masterson she mentioned fit into the Murphy/Brown union. Thanks - was
curious about that.
As for the Murphy clan -- unfortunately my Murphy family I haven't found west of Ohio
so far - tracked them from WVA, SE Ohio and Tenn and Ala and think they were in Cincinnati
area in 1860 (not proven although son had said he was born in Bavaria OH and we thought
maybe it was Batavia only to find out there WAS a Bavaria, OH not far from Cinci but
haven't found them on 1860 census yet.
I just track any and all surnames in Spencer Co, IN and try to see if I can keep track of
these so that when others ask me about a specific surname I can lead them to other
researchers and/or find the brick wall answer to help them out. I use the surnames persons
are seeking on the message boards to find birth, death, marriage, census, etc when I do
the vital statistic research and then as I put them on my Spencer Co, IN webpage so others
can find these vitals without having to pay to get this or without having to visit the
county (especially if live far away or have problems getting out due to disabilities,
illness or children). I have so very much I have obtained from vitals but haven't put
on the website so far -- hard to find the time recently since have been working 60hr weeks
and problems with my medical things too and lots of doctors' appointments - but I add
weekly as I can, even if only one bit of data for someone to find.
My Murphy family (this is actually my husband's that I researched since he said all of
his grandparents were 1st generation to come into the USA and he bet me that I
couldn't find his grandparents' first names and he gave me 6mos to do so - took me
less than an hour to find them and been tracking them since and found that so far I found
only 1 of his ancestor lines going back overseas (1840 his one gr-gr-gr grandfather came
to America from Westphalen) and rest still here and been here since 1760s that I can find
so far and still not gone overseas. Interesting though because it was when doing his
research I found that Murphy isn't really an Irish name, but a Spanish one -- and
original name something like O'Morchada or something like that (don't have my
notes handy) and the Spanish king sent his one man to watch over his landholdings - and
this man had so many children and he hired the children and in-laws to help him and became
so powerful that the Spanish king even began f!
earing him and that he would take over the land, etc - but because of all th children and
descendants of that one man in Ireland this is why most everyone attributes Murphy as
being Irish -- and most of the Irish ones are the ones that migrated into England,
Scotland, Canada, and America, etc.
Sorry I haven't matched into any of your Murphys YET but who knows - if any of them
came from WVA or PA it is a good possibility somewhere along the line we'll mesh into
each other's lines.
Take care,
Judy M.
