I've got to get his Civil War records for - but I think that's him and I only have
him in the 1860 census, then it jumps to the 1910. I'm not positive but the dates and
birth place match.

So I am assuming that Caroline's husband died or divorced before Jan 1862. I checked
to see if I could find her husband being in civil war and no record of it or her even
applying for the children or herself for pension (if he had died in it).
