In the Sugar Creek Twp. cemetery listings I found a Margaret Snider born Aug 25, 1805,
died Aug 25, 1862, listed as wife of John.
The ages could be off a little due to the time the census was taken but it sounds like
this could be your Margaret. Beside her is
Isola L. Snider died July 25, 2864, daughter of J. & E.A., and James A. Sept 24, 1854
26y,6m,17d. This cem. is called the Keith
Cem. It is located between co. road 100 N. and Range Road, and is on 600 W. They are
also listed in the 1850 census with a son
named James, born in Ohio. Both parents are listed as born in Ky. They also have a
William, James H. and Martha. John was called
James a lot. The ages work out also. Sandy Howley

Phyllis, Barb, Melinda, or any other kindly soul out there:
Can someone check the 1870 census of Shelby Co. and see if you can find the
family listed below. In 1860 they were in Sugar Creek Twp, pge 898 and listed
as
John Snider, age 53, farmer b. NY,
Margaret Snider, age 54, b. KY
John H. Snider, age 22, b. KY
Martha, age 10, b. IN
I especially need to know if Martha is still in the household in 1870.
Some of you know that I have long researched on the assumption that my
great-grandmother, Martha Snider (who married Harvey Nelson Thurston), was the
daughter of David Snider (who married Elizabeh Nail). However, I have found
this Martha Snider still in her father, David's, household in both 1870 and 1880
and listed as single, while my Martha married in 1864 and was said to be
deceased around 1880. So this apparently eliminates her as my great-grandmother.
The above Martha, daughter of John & Margaret, is about 5 yrs difference in
age from what I believe the 1870 census showed Harvey Nelson Thurston's wife,
but is the only other Martha Snider we've found in the area. I also found that
Harvey Nelson Thurston's 1st cousin, Sophia Thurston, married a William H.
Snider who was listed next door to John & Margaret in 1860 and may be their son.
This leads me to believe that this Martha "could" be my great-grandmother.
Any clue or contact with others researching this family would be greatly
appreciated.
