Hi George,
I am confused. Are there two Diadema Rices as mentioned in these Shelby
County Indiana marriages? You show Diadema Rice, sister of Dulcena & Roena born c.
1813, but the one married to Jeremiah Bassett I show buried in Brandywine
Cemetery (Didama Bassett 24Y, 11M, 29D, Wife of J. ) was born c. 1844.
RICE, DIADEMA - WASHINGTON YOUNG - NOVEMBER 3, 1831 2 - 171
RICE, MICHAEL - NANCY PHARES - NOVEMBER 28, 1837 3 - 407
Bassett Jeremiah Rice Didama 19 Jul 1863 8 170
Bassett Jeremiah Rice Nancy J 24 Aug 1869 9 267
If the Brandywine transcription record is correct, Diadema (Rice) Bassett was
born around May 01, 1844. I show Jeremiah born c. 1840 and after Diadema's of
April 30, 1869, he married Nancy J. Rice. I show a 3rd marriage for Jeremiah
Bassett on March 09, 1897 Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL to a Sarah Freeman (was
this info from you - my source is unconfirmed.)
Somewhere I show that Diadema (Rice) Bassett was the daughter of Nancy
Phares and Michael Rice, and sister to Dulsena & Euphemisia, but perhaps she was a
niece. Can you help me straighten this out? (Jeremiah was the stepson of
Samuel Bassett & Pamelia/Permelia (Drake) Davis (my ancestor).) Thanks!
- Mary
