Message Board Post:
I have found information regarding the HOUSER side of my family that is a bit confusing.
This source lists the parents as being Peter HOUSER (1789-1879)and Mary Madgalen
WERKHEISER. They are listed as living in Shelby County, Indiana in the 1850s. The source
lists their children as follows:
1. Lawrence HOUSER (1844-1927)abandoned by parents. She married Jeremiah BENNETT in 1865.
3. Louisa HOUSER (1849-?) abandoned by parents. She married David VAN HORN in 1866.
4. Amelia HOUSER (1851-?) abandoned by parents.
5. Frederick HOUSER (1858-?) abandoned by parents.
6. Mahala HOUSER (no additional information)
7. Martha HOUSER (no additional information)
Is there any source that has information about these children being indentured or
apprenticed? The source listed the children being indentured or apprenticed by Brandywine
Township - overseer to the poor. The children were indentured to different individuals. I
have concerns about this being the correct Peter HOUSER and the correct mother for the
children. Mary would have been 52 years old when her first child was born. Additional
information in this source states that the children may have been neglected.
