Are any of you interested in helping this gentleman compile Shelby
County veterans records from current obituaries? Anyone read the
Shelbyville News daily that could help?
Hello,
I am Jim West, resident of Shelby County, and webmaster of
www.IndianaMilitary.org <
http://www.IndianaMilitary.org>
IMO is a website dedicated to the military history of South-Central
Indiana, and includes the "official" web sites for many local bases,
posts and units. Included are Camp Atterbury, Ft. Harrison, Freeman
Field, Wakeman General Hospital, Billings General Hospital, and the
28th, 30th, 31st, 83rd, 92nd and 106th Infantry Divisions as they
trained at Camp Atterbury during both WW2 and Korean War. This is the
largest private website in Indiana at more than 50 Gigabytes of pure
history. No comments or interpretations.
In addition to the hundreds of pages of history, you may also find many
group photos of Shelby County workers at the post during WW2, most with
identifications.
The most recent project has been Rosters of all persons associated with
any of the above bases, posts or units. Currently more than 87,000 names.
And finally, I have a "Veterans Grave Roster". Too date there are more
than 6,000 names, dates and burial locations. Most are gleaned from
local newspapers in their obituaries. Unfortunately, Bartholomew County
is the only local county where I have been able to find help with this
project. All I need is someone that reads the local newspapers, and
forward any military related obits to me. Photos are also displayed.
If you know of anyone that would like to assist, please let me (or them)
know. I was dismayed when the recent news article concerning the lady
trying to locate graves with the assistance of the VA office resulted in
no replies from either to my asking for their help. I have likewise had
no help from the VFW or the American Legion.
Please take a look at the site, all begins at
www.IndianaMilitary.org
<
http://www.IndianaMilitary.org> Hosted and supported by the U. S. Army
and the AmVets of Indiana.
Your help will be appreciated.
