Subject: The Maley family
I am studying the family descendents of Thomas Maley Sr. who is said
to
have
immigrated (to Franklin Co. In.) circa 1852. Starting out, I believed
this
as
gospel, then I found that he married a woman from Fayette County in
1869.
He
doesn't show up in the Franklin Co. Census until 1870, his whole
family is
listed in that census- in Franklin Co., though not all were living in his
household. His son, Thomas Maley Jr. had several ties to counties north of
Franklin,
including dying in a buggy accident in Rushvill. At that time Tom Jr.
had
script on his person from several places north of Franklin co., he worked
and had
friends in places North of Franklin Co. I have just obtained a copy
of the
naturalization of one Thomas Maley in Shelby Circuit Court. He arrived 05
01 1853
and was naturalized on 09 03, 1868. (about a year before he died) The
birth
year of this Thomas Maley coincides with the age given for my Thomas
Maley
Jr.
in the 1870, Franklin co. census. If Thomas Maley Sr. was never
naturalized,I
think his Irish born son would be officially an alien, and have to
have
his own
naturalization if he wanted to be a citizen. I looked in the online
1860
Shelby Co. census index for people of the Maley surname, hoping to maybe
find the
family in Shelby county. No Maleys! I have no idea why he would go to
Shelby
Co. to be naturalized, unless he was living there. I'm suspecting
that
I've
maybe found my G'G'Uncle. Does anyone have any knowledge or
opinions about
this
Person? NM
