My grandmother Fannie Hayden Doolittle was born in Fairview, Fayette County in 1869 (her
death certificate said that Fairview was in Wayne County.) In the 1870 census for Fayette
County she is listed as an infant in the home of her parents:
1870 IN, Fayette County, Fairview, Groves PO, pg 65B
Joel F Doolittle, 33,m,w,IN,Blacksmith,v.pers $200
Lucinda, 30,f,w,IN
William, 9,m,w,IN
Frank, 6,m,w,IN
Fannie, 9/12,f,w,IN
Then in 1880 they were in Shelby County:
1880 IN, Shelby County, Shelbyville, pg 312D
Lucinda Doolittle, head,f,w,39,Wd,IN,NY,KY
William, son,m,w,19,S,IN,IN,IN,Blacksmith
Franklin, son,m,w,15,S,IN,IN,IN
Fannie, dau,f,w,10,S,IN,IN,IN
Emma, dau,f,w,5,S,IN,IN,IN
John, son,m,w,1,S,IN,IN,IN
Her father Joel Franklin Doolittle (went by Frank to distinguish himself from his father
Joel, also a blacksmith) died in 1879 in Shelbyville, Shelby County. Brother Frank also
died in Shelbyville in 1881. William lived until after 1910, Emma (married William
Mitchell) till after after 1910 and John possibly till 1963.
Fannie's mother was Lucinda Rice (1840-1923) who was the daughter of William Rice and
Lucy Lemaster.
Fannie's father Joel Franklin Doolittle (1837-1879)was the son of Joel Doolittle of
Vermont (1801-about 1853) and Sarah Hayden Williams (born NY 1806, married in Preble Ohio
1828 and died in Rushville in 1889.)
Fannie married Charles Matlock (1865-1932) and she died in 1953, outliving son Harold, but
leaving behind sons Wilbur and Clifton, and daughters Mary Wilson and Dorothy McGhehey.
If anyone recognizes any of these families, I would love to exchange info. I have lots of
info on the Matlock family as well.
