Hello Donna:
I am directly descended from Job W. Perry and his 2nd wife Jerusha Ann
Story.
Jerusha was first married to Oliver Larmer; the couple had several children;
Oliver died during the Civil War.
Job and Jerusha had 3 children: William Henry, Albert, and Job Jr.
According to written notes passed down in my family, Job Jr died as an
infant. Job Jr and Sr were buried side by side in the Lemar Cemetery in
Shelby County, IN. Lemar Cemetery no longer exists -- it was on the banks
of a river and over the years was washed away (there are a couple of
articles on the Shelby County rootsweb site about the Lemar Cemetery and its
washing away / flooding problems, which occurred over a number of years in
the late 1800's & early 1900's). I believe, but have not yet researched,
that the Lemar Cemetery was somehow associated with the Lemar family into
which Jerusha's twin brother, Andrew Jackson Story, married -- his 2nd wife
was Carolyn Lamar / Lemar. I am not exactly certain of Job Jr's birth and
death dates -- he is not listed in the 1870 census, so I don't know if he
was born and died before then or if he was not born until after the 1870
census was taken.
William Henry Perry was born about 1866, probably in Shelby Co, IN. He is
listed in the 1870 census living in Hendricks, Shelby Co, IN in the
household with his parents (who are erroneously listed as Joseph Perry and
Anna Perry), his brother Albert, and several older half-siblings (a mixture
of children from the first marriages of Job and Jerusha). In 1880,
"Step-sons" Albert and Henry are enumerated in German Township, Bartholomew
County, IN in the household of Benjamin Ensley and their re-married mother
Jerusha, along with older children of Benjamin's. After that, my trail for
William Henry Perry goes cold -- I suspect that he may be the William Henry
Perry enumerated in the 1910 and 1920 census for Cowley Co, KS living with
wife Alma. By the 1930 census, Alma is widowed (still living in Cowley Co,
KS). This is the only William Henry, Henry or Henry W. Perry that I have
found listed in the census indices that was born in Indiana in 1866 and that
is not otherwise eliminated as a possibility. But, I have NO basis to prove
the connection.
After the death of Job Sr, Jerusha married her 3rd husband Benjamin Franklin
Ensley. This was the 5th marriage for Mr. Ensley. Jerusha and Mr. Ensley
had no children together. Jerusha is buried with Mr. Ensley in the Roberts
Chapel Cemetery, which straddles the Shelby County and Bartholomew County
Border (his earlier 4 wives and numerous other Ensley relations are also
buried there). A photo of their grave marker can be seen on
findagrave.com.
I am descended from Albert Perry and his wife Stella Carrie Howerth, through
their oldest son George Earl Perry and his wife Kathryn Brooks.
Albert Perry and Stella Carrie Howerth were married 14 September 1890 in
Bartholomew County, IN.
George Earl Perry and Kathryn Brooks were married 03 September 1917 in
Bartholomew County, IN.
What is your connection?
I look forward to hearing from you!
Virginia Perry Cox
