Phyllis - I have become a strong advocate of TMG. It simply displays more
on one screen than anything else I have seen. For the single individual
being viewed, you can set it up so that you see all the events in that
person's life, have a smaller box on the screen that displays the children's
names, DOB, DOD and spouse and also the same information for siblings. In
addition, there is a sortable data base of all the names in the file (with
DOB) and if they have spouses and children, then those names can also be
viewed which helps making the selection of the individual you want to
evaluate simple. All the names in the file are indexed by married and
maiden names as well as any variation in the name you may have entered.
Their citation and source capability is outstanding.
I have not used FTM for a long time so I don't know where they are now, but
I would guess they are still trying to catch up.
If you want more info, write direct.

Subject: [INSHELBY] data programs - FTM vs TMG
I need to make a decision about my database program. I have narrowed
it
down to remaining with Family Tree Maker or switching to The Master
Genealogist.
Any experience-based opinions out there?
