I've been using the FTM 2005, and been using FTM for a few years before
that one. Never tried the 16 version though. I will stick to FTM, it
does what I want it to do okay.
Only thing I wish it would show the multiple wives when I'm searching
for something. I did try the Legacy and didn't like it. I like FTM
because you can search
Ancestry.com to. I thought about getting the 2009
but we'll see.
But it's all in what a person likes or dislikes.

I can't speak about TMG as I have not used it. I have been using FTM
version 16 for a couple of years and find that it does everything I want
it
to do, and is very user friendly. One other thing that I especially like
and find extremely valuable is the FTM-Help list at Rootsweb. I
subscribe
to it and I am constantly learning more things about FTM as a program,
as
well as how to solve various issues that have come up for others. The
consensus on the lists seems to be that the 2008 version of FTM, which
is a
rewrite of the software, is lacking in some of the things that version
16
will do although it has some new and beneficial features; there is
another
new version coming out -- 2009 -- but I don't think it is yet available.
However, FTM version 16 is available for purchase from online vendors
(Amazon maybe?) quite inexpensively. You may want to check out the
archives
of the FTM list to help you in making your decision.

I don't know if there is a similar help list for TMG, but I do think
that
the FTM-help list is a major selling point.

Subject: [INSHELBY] data programs - FTM vs TMG
I need to make a decision about my database program. I have narrowed it
down to remaining with Family Tree Maker or switching to The Master
Genealogist.
Any experience-based opinions out there?
