For what it is worth, I HAVE used FTM and TMG both. I made the switch from TMG a few
years ago to the Legacy Family Tree Program. If you go to it's web page
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com You will see where you can download a free version of
their basic program. I am thrilled with all it can do and their tech support is much
better than TMG. It does everything I want and more and is very user friendly like FTM.
Take a look at it. I also have a friend who went with Legacy after years of FTM because
she felt it was superior to FTM.
I gave up on TMG because of their slowness of getting new versions out and the difficulty
I had using it. It was just rather quirky. Also, their new versions usually had a lot
of bugs in them. In my opinion it is more for professionals. I do not plan to write a
book and it would be good for that. But....big but, Legacy has excellent reports and the
option to do books too. It has charting built right into the program and the upgrades are
very inexpensive. Their sourcing entry is almost foolproof. I decided to buy their
deluxe version because it will do a chronology report, which is very important to me in
doing research. I am using it (version 7) with Vista. Please take a look at their home
page and read all about it or give it a try.
That's my $.02 worth.
