Even though my husband's paternal grandmother was Charlotte Mae Nail (1886-1982)
and is our link to the Nail-Wray Association, her line has been well-researched back
into 15th century Europe. Her grandfather was Obadiah Nail born 1818 in Rowan Co. North
Carolina . Her great-grandfather was born Heinrich Nagel (Henry Nail) in what became
Germany in 1771. He married in Rowan Co. NC in 1798 Mary Keller born 1776 in
Pennsylvania . Henry died in 1827 in Shelby Co. IN. Mary died in Butler, Montgomery Co.
Illinois in 1857.
The Nails who are not a part of the Nail-Wray Association incl. Shelby Co. IN lived
in Jackson Twp. and Washington Twp. in southwestern Shelby Co. IN. and came from
Pennsylvania through Ohio to Indiana. Some of these other Nails are buried with marked
graves in Patterson Cem. Jackson Twp. and are not related to us. We are the Nails who
lived in Sugar Creek, Brandywine, and Addison Twps. and Shelbyville.
Sorry we can't help with DNA testing on your Nail line, but maybe this
information helps a little. I have all or nearly all the volumes of books on our Nails
and allied families if you need a lookup on a particular person. There are thousands of
members across the USA and beyond. One Nail from our group is Mrs. Stephen Spielberg or
"Kate Capshaw" whose Nail family was from Missouri.

Subject: [INSHELBY] Nail family DNA
I thought my family was connected to the Shelby, Indiana Nails until my father gave me
more acurate information on his greatgrandmother's name and who she married. I was
thrown off track. But since my Nails, immigrated from Shenendoah, VA across the upper
part of the US through Illinois, Indiana? and on to Montana, I would like to know if there
are any male descendents of the Nail line who would be willing to take the DNA test
offered through
ancestry.com. My father, Robert Edward Nail, has taken the Y chromosome
46 marker test and the MTDNA (materal) test. These revealed that his Y chromosome group
is R1b and his maternal haplogroup is H.
Anyone else interested in taking the test through ancestry.com?
