Whoops. I sent my message along with the RAY obits before reading my
mail. Ron has been putting his info together, and now says the Martin M
RAY, husband of Rachel, was actually the uncle of the Martin M RAY that
was here in Shelbyville and married to Susan CROSS.

Okay, I have been cogitating and I think I have part of this thing
figured out. You will have to supply the answer to the rest of it. There
were two Martin M. Rays. That's where the confusion arises. Our (Shelby
County's) Martin M. Ray married Susan Cross, became a lawyer, and was
responsible for building our famous Ray House in 1857. His dad was John
Ray. They were originally from Wayne County, Indiana. John Ray, our'
Martin's father, had two famous brothers, Governor James Ray and Martin
M. Ray. This one, our Martin's uncle, is the one you have the record on
who is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery and his wife was Rachel. He was
also a noted attorney and politician. Now, my question is about the
INdianapolis Ray House. Was it built by Uncle Martin Ray or Shelby
County's own Martin Ray? Can you find out anything about the
Indianapolis Ray House? You have piqued my curiosity. Since a Martin Sr
had a funeral there, and his wife Rachel, and daughter Mary all had
funerals there or were living there when they died, they certainly had a
strong connection to the Ray House in Indps. If you find out anything
about the Indps Ray House, let me know.Ron
