Really THANKS to FL306 and Don. You two are fine detectives. Coincidentally I am about
to renew my Ancestry membership to pursue this.
FL306 - for reasons I cannot recall I have noted her middle name as Maud or Maude. My
father always called her grandma Dolan so that is what I guess went on her death record.
But I suppose it could have been Taylor or even Coster if Don is right? There is no
indication she married a 3rd time.
Don - it would be absolutely amazing if you are right. I never heard that she was born in
England, a fact I would expect to be passed along as family lore. But it is possible, as
is almost anything concering her, especially if her parents died young and she lost her
English accent in part due to early immigration.
Can you tell me what the 1880 census says her age is?
It is also entirely possible her 1st husband was the Joseph F. Taylor you mention.
The Jennie you mention was her daughter, her only child as far as I know. Rusler is a
mis-translation of Resler.
So the combination of facts points to Emma A. Coster. Wow!
However, one inconsistency with your idea is the 1930 census Shelbyville Dist 1, Shelby
Co., Ind which has Emma Dolan, age 66, b. Ind, parents b OH, wife of John J. Dolan age 61,
b. MN, parents b IL. I have assumed this was my Emma although in my records he is Jack
Dolan. Of course census records can be very wrong and easy to confuse between families.
It would be nice to find her death record. I probably have to put in a request for
another Indiana death records search. And the 1940 census is due out next year which may
help clarify some of this.
Another intriguing aspect is, if you are right, the possible candidates for Jennie's
father points to Carroll Co, IN Feb 1880 (unless they were still in England or in transit
at that time).
