My first experience of sending a Hoax through the Lists was really a bad one.
So I can appreciate it when someone else does it. I was new on the computer
and the net. I got my hoax from a list member, so I thought it must be true
and I sent it all over the place. I was only on about 6 lists at that time. O
my, I got some really angry reponses. And, then the other half were great
about it. One list owner would not take an apology. Not only new people but
old timers as well fall for these very creative copy/pasted material. Through
my own experience.....hehehe!!! I can laugh now, but at the time it was not
so funny!!!
Keep Smiling

HI Phyllis,
Thanks for checking on William Glidewell b.1760 Halifax Co.Va who died in
Shelby Co. IN. The first court document that I referred to for my info, is
his deposition request for pension from his service in the Revolutionary
War. Unfortunately it rambles on and on about his military activities for
13 pages and does not mention anything of his family (except for mentioning
his brother Robert b.1762 who also served, buried in Franklin Co. IN).
William does not mention his children or his wife but he writes about how
his regiment crossed this river or that river and where they camped, and
what the British troops were doing. Anyway I did transcripe the whole darn
thing, and they only mention of Indiana is the following:
"In order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed June 7th 1833,
State of Indiana Shelby County on this eleventh day of November 1833
personally appeared in open court William Glidewell before the probate court
of Shelby County, Indiana, now sitting William Glidewell, a resident of
Marion Township in the county and state aforesaid aged seventy-three years
on the 4th day of March last, who being duly sworn in according to law, hath
on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of
the act of congress passed June 7th 1833...."
It goes on and on for 13 more pages, but only mentions war stuff.
The other document I have related to the above, is a request for pension
shares of his descendants in the Shelby Co. community from p.29 of Shelby
Co. Probate Order Book B 1836-1842:
"Comes now into open court Robert Pharis, Greenberry Glidewell and Andrew
Hensley of lawful age and being (?unreadable) examined upon oath...It
appears to the satisfaction of the court now here that the (?unreadable)
William Glidewell named in a pension certificate here now presented to the
court dated the twenty-ninth day of November eighteen hundred and
thirty-three, died on the twentieth day of June last, that the deceased
pensioner left five surviving children to wit:..." and the document is dated
Sept 1836.
The above are as close to any death record as I have gotten.
You also suggested that I check the BML site--would you happen to have that
address handy?
Thank you very much for your time and trouble,
Diane in MO

Diane,
If you can transcribe the 1836 court document, or send me a copy, we
can probably determine the section of the county where your ancestor
resided.
Have you checked the BLM site? If he were here in 1810, he probably
purchased land in 1820 when it became available for sale.

What is the address of the BLM and what is it, Bureau of Land Management or
something else? Did you hear that Kentucky Fried Chicken isn't really chicken
but lab grown blobs of meat with no feathers, etc. I thought the new , to me
at least, site was interesting, have loved urban and other folklore since I
took a folklore class at IU 30??? years ago. Sandy

Diane! Thats a great record, girl you better know how lucky you are! Ha!
Ha! Just kidding but I will take it anytime. Here is the Bureau of Land
Management site.
Go to search on the botton (real small) It will ask for your zip code the 1st
time. When you put 'Indiana" in the blank it rolls over to Indiana, don't
be
alarmed. Go from there.
After you get the land description..go back and ONLY put that in , NO NAME,
and you will get the neighbors!
This is land owned by the Federal Gov. sold to settlers.
Good luck, <A

RE: Improved Order of Redmen
This organization was very popular up through the 1950's and is still active
but not near as big. Many members had masonic ties. Their national
headquarters are in Waco, Texas.
Actually their Lodge is in WEST, TEXAS. This town
is approx' 35 miles
North of Waco on InterState 35-W; driving-by one may see their Lodge building..........
According to their literature, they are a
patriotic organization and descend from the Sons of Liberty if I remember
correctly. Their roots go back to the American Revolution. The regalia they
wear copies the traditional Native Americans.
Aye, they're very colorful &
extremely accurate in replicating early
dress of Original Americans. We used to see 'em on parade during the
'Annual West Fest'
about this time of year. Members of that lodge were very open with
regard to
origin & requisites of the organization plus a fun-loving bunch....
Should you contact them, they will give you the name and number of the keeper > of
the records for the particular area you are looking in. They used to have
a website, but I don't know if they are online anymore. My grandfather was a
member of this organization. Ma
Thanx for your update & info' re' Sons
of Liberty (I forgot about them). Yours
is a very proud lineage, ie. IOR & SOL.... Respectfully, RAS
