Surname: Carmony, Nigh
-------------------------
Hi Edith,
I have a book titled "American Nyes of German Origin" vol. 1, and this
is what I found:
157 EVA NEU (J.Peter), born October 30, 1792 in Rockingham Co., Virginia;
baptized June 23, 1793 at the Peaked Mountain Church. She accompanied her
parents to Ohio about 1803 and married JOHN CARMONY, JR., born February
1, 1796 in Dauphine Co., Pennsylvania, son of JOHN CARMONY. They settled
near Morristown, Shelby Co., Indiana next to the farm of her brother, John.
He died in 1877; she died February 7, 1858.
Children, surnamed Carmony:
1) JOHN, b. Sept. 21, 1816 in Ohio; he had:
i SALATHIEL CARMONY, b. May 8, 1849
ii JOHN THOMAS CARMONY, b. Sept. 7, 1851.
iii WILLIAM CARMONY, b. Sept. 7, 1853
2) PETER, b. 1818 in Ohio
3) GEORGE
4) JAMES
5) JOSEPH, b. Jan. 1, 1825 in Ohio; m. CHRISTINA ALEXANDER.
They had:
i SARAH JANE CARMONY, b. M ay 3, 1849; m. DAVID CREEK. 10 ch.
ii THOMAS FRANKLIN CARMONY, b. Feb. 12, 1852; m. EMILY YOUNGS; d. Aug.
1, 1923
iii MARY; m. CYRUS MONTGOMERY, one son.
iv AMOS; no ch.
6) ISAAC, b. 1827
7) SIDONIA, b. 1830; m._____ROBINS
8) ALMIRA
9) ANDERSON, b. 1837
10) CYNTHIA ANN, b. 1839 in IN.; m. (1st)____HILL, m. (2nd) ______VANCE.
I descend from EVA NUE's brother, JOHN NEIGH. Apparently, the kids all
spelled their surname however they wanted. Another sister spelled it, NYE.
My mother gave me this book for my birthday, but I don't know where she
bought it. If you would like a copy, I'll ask her who has them, or the
Shelby Co. Library (genealogy dept.) may have a copy of it. I can send
you a gedcom with our direct ancestors back to Hans Neu, the Elder, b.
abt. 1570 Germany, burial date Sept. 26, 1597, Kleinich, Germany if you'd
like. Just let me know.
Sincerely,
Melissa
