Message Board Post:
I am looking for information on the following families (my gg-grandparents):
John Cook who was born about 1814 in Shelby County, Indiana. He married Eliza or
Elizabeth A. Cox (born in Indiana) on March 17, 1842 in Shelby County, Indiana. They had
at least the following children:
David A. Cook, born 1843 in Indiana, married Minerva Unknown
Levina Cook, born October 1844 in Indiana
Samantha Cook, born 1847 in Indiana
Lorena V. Cook, born January 1849 in Indiana, married Emery Carter Russell on July 14,
1870 in Christian County, Illinois and died July 1, 1935 in Jacksonville, Morgan County,
Illinois
Nancy Cook, born about 1850 in Indiana
Edward Cook, born December 1852 in Indiana
Cornelius Cook, born 1855 in Indiana
Malinda Ann Cook (my great-grandmother), born March 3, 1858 in Shelbyville, Shelby county,
Indiana, married Aaron David Moore in 1877 and died March 13, 1943 at St. John’s Hospital,
Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois – burial was March 15, 1943 in the Mt. Auburn
Cemetery, Christian County, Illinois
Mary Cook, born February 1860 in Indiana, married a Mr. Raegar and a Mr. Squires
Minerva Cook, born 1863 in Indiana
Melissa Cook, born 1866 in Indiana
This family had moved to Illiopolis, Sangamon County by the 1880 census.
I believe John Cook’s parents to be Cornelius Cook (son of George Cook and Anna Maria
Hoffman), born about 1773 in Virginia or Ohio, married November 3, 1812 in Butler County,
Ohio to Mary Wilkinson (daughter of John Wilkinson and Leah Niswanger), born December 25,
1793 in Winchester, Virginia or possibly Ohio. Cornelius died August 15, 1865 and Mary
died April 4, 1886, both in Shelby County, Indiana. The only other children I have found
for this couple is Samuel Cook, born about 1823 in Indiana, married to Rebecca Unknown,
and Alpheus Cook, born about 1828 in Indiana.
I have been unable to find Eliza/Elizabeth A. Cox’s parents.
If anyone can help me find more information on these families, I would really appreciate
it. I am willing to share any information I have that may help someone else.
