Shelbers,
I spent some time on the phone this morning with one of our local servers
(SVS). The other day when there was a discussion about a virus that sends
you a personal note asking for your opinion on a file, their server bounced
every one of those messages to their customers. They have virus protection
on their server that doesn't just scan attachments, it scans the content of
the message and blocks it completely. This seems to be the way it is with a
lot of servers anymore. They are protecting themselves as well as the
customers.
I want you to all be aware that, although it's good to warn others of
viruses, people may not get those warnings because of the content of your
message. Maybe it's best if we keep it offlist or send a note to me
(offlist) and I will send one message to the list regarding the virus. I
don't want continued discussions about it just because all messages go to
the archives and Rootsweb has changed things so that I can no longer delete
unrelated messages from the archives. I have no idea why they changed that,
but I wish that they hadn't. When Phyllis first turned the list over to me,
I was able to access the archives and delete whatever I wanted, but now, I
can't even access them except as a visitor like everyone else. When I asked
them about it, they didn't seem to think that they would be going back to
that format anytime in the near future.
I appreciate your understanding,
Melinda
