moldy records and the LDS
by Phyllis Miller Fleming
I have been in contact with some LDS microfilmers working here in Indiana. They sent me this email today.
Hello Ms. Fleming,
I apologize for taking this much time to respond to your email but I
wanted to be sure of my "facts" after I contacted my Field Supervisor.
It appears your request to film these records must be put on hold for
awhile, at least from the perspective of FamilySearch. Our priorities
are to complete the contractual requirements of our agreement with the
State Archives before we take on any other tasks. I'm told completion
of this agreement will take about three years if they bring in extra
cameras to get the job done. In any case, FamilySearch is only
interested in those records which have pertinence to genealogical research.
On the upside, your records seem to be very well organized and those
with genealogical value could be accessed easier than other places we
have seen where loose papers are simply jammed into boxes and stored in
a variety of conditions.

Looks like I will be pursuing the library and their 501K status this summer. - P
