Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I just had a thought. Didn't the library buy the old furniture store?
How about storage space there where people would be warm and dry or
cool if nessary. There should be plenty of space and it could be in the
best intrest of the genealogy section.

Like I said, you need to go to the LDS site, and look at all the stuff they have copied for Shelby county. It is an impressive list. www.familysearch.org.

I believe you can purchase the microfilms from Utah. By the way the LDS does not microfilm anymore, they use high powered scanners and put everything on disk. Also they give the county copies of anything they scan.

Maybe they just overlooked us....they didn't give Shelby County any copies. Phyllis checked and they have no copies at the courthouse or anywhere else. I think that's awesome that they put them on disks now!! That is so much easier for people. It's not easy trying to find a microfilm reader that you can access whenever. The ones at the IUPUI library are hooked up to the computers so you can save to disk or e-mail pages. It's wonderful!! It's a shame Shelby County doesn't have something like that.
Thanks again,
Melinda

Melinda,
Can you request a copy sent from the LDS for the library? If not, can we buy
a copy of the filmed records for the library? I seem to remember you can buy
a copy for around $20.00 each.
There are a lot of us unable to physically be there to help, but are willing
to help however we can. Maybe we can make donations for the microfilms,
supplies, memory cards for the cameras, printer paper etc? Does the library have
a microfilm reader?
Just tell us what you need and where to send it. This is such a GREAT list
and there are so many willing people on it.

Janet,
Thanks for the offer. Anyone willing to use their digital camera or sit and
type onto their laptop can be put to work once some of the books are
released to us.
If any of you think you can come and help sometime in the future, that will
be great. Right now, we must wait and see how many books the State will
require the county to keep.
Thanks again.

Subject: [INSHELBY] microfilmed records
I spoke with Phyllis and I'm sure that she will post something to the list later. She knew about these records. However, when the LDS came in to microfilm, they never sent a copy to Shelby County of the microfilm. There is a possibility that there is a copy at the state library. Usually the only way that you can view microfilm is to order it delivered to your library for viewing.
The records that we are inventorying are not the same as those that have been microfilmed. We are doing our best to make sure that we can make these records available in some form. Of course, it won't happen overnight. Being able to inventory what is there is a step in the right direction.

I like 1833! Ha! And now I see you found that 1825 one too. Oh to be there to
help. If my "flesh were willing," I sure would be on the way!
You are doing such a good, and humongus job, all of you. If we have an
inventory at the end, will there be a way for someone to lookup names for us?
Probably the hard part is having a place to put them, and shelves so they can be
found easily.
I know that is going to be a problem, if possible at all.
Another question: would laying them outside, [the worse ones] in full sun
help to kill the mold, so it does less harm?
You are fixing to have an election there I see. [ Gee, who could miss it?].
Maybe if a committee were to go to campaign stops and tell them two, that you
have influence with people all over the US and it may pay off in Nov, and could
they promise a federal grant to poor old Shelby Co.? That would be money
better spent than that bridge to nowhere. Well, just amusing myself!
