Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I guess that would make your husband and me 4th cousins twice removed. I
would be very interested in a copy of Rachel Worth Rigsbee's obituary if
you locate one. A picture of Rachel would be nice too - (well, I can
dream).

Yes John--and I have you to thank for a copy of the 1914 affidavit regarding
this family. Curt Older recently sent me a copy which I believe you were
kind enough to supply. My husband is the ggggrandson of William Moore and
Mariah Rigsby (sometimes called Maria). We just spent a week in Shelby and
Rush counties looking for William and Mariah's graves to no avail. Their
son, John B Moore, is buried near Jehua at the Little Blue River Friends
Cemetery. Curt sent me the obituary abstracts, including one for Rachel.
I'm hoping to get copies--it will be several years before we can get back to
Shelby and Rush counties in person. Kathy

I am looking for the parents of Elizabeth Endsley/Ensley who married Levi Griffith June 1, 1878 in Shelby County. Seems she may have been born in MO abt. 1855, according to census records I have found. I have yet to find her on a census with her parents, only with Levi. I found the Levi Griffith family with a William L Ensley listed as brother in law on the 1900 Hancock County census, William being 26 and married at the time, and Elizabeth being 45. I would greatly appreciate any help in determining who the parents of Elizabeth and William might be.

Karen, Thanks for the precise information. The location explains why my
grandfather (William Tevis Latta) might have been working there in 1885. It
was fairly close to his home in Orange Township near Rushville.

Swain's Mill was situated on Little Blue River just below the Wesleyan Church
in Posey Twp, Rush Co. There are still Swains in the area. An enlarged
postcard photo is hanging in the Shelby Co. genealogy library. There is also an
old newspaper clipping on the mill at the library telling of its history. This
mill served folks in both Rush and Shelby counties as it was near the county
line.
The area around the mill was called Sumner; there was a Sumner P.O. back in
those days. This area is now served out of the Arlington post office.

Sylvia and Lillian Wilder lived on 3rd Street in Rushville when I was growing up in the 1940's. They had Junior,
(named after his Dad, Bob Wilder and another son (no girls.)
Lillian Curry married Sylvia and were married until Sylvia died. I went to Lillian Wilder's funeral in about 1982.
She is buried in the East Hill Cemetery at Rushville IN.
I believe Sylvia, Lillian and at least one son are buried
there on the south end close to the corn field. I will be buried across the road from them. My mother was a Sweet and her mother was a Curry. Melinda Trader married Wm
T Curry, They had several children.
I was born in Rushville in 1933 and then we moved to
Indpls IN when I was 8 yrs old but I just keep going back.

OK, I think maybe I understand. You are on the new site, searching for
something of interest. This uses a search function at freefind.com.
Freefind must still be pointing to the OLD site, because the links it finds
are all at rootsweb.com/~inshelby. Of course, those links will give you the
Forbidden error because you are now trying to access the OLD site.
I assume P will fix that soon. In the meantime, here is a temporary
solution if you are in a hurry for some information: Just do the search,
copy the link it found of interest and paste it in your browser instead of
clicking on it. Then replace the "rootsweb.com/~inshelby" part only with
shelbycountyindiana.org, and you will go to the correct page.
Hope this helps - John

A Sigma Kappa sorority sister living in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana in
1969, was Becky Latta. She may be related as Terre Haute lies west of
Shelby Co. and Latta is a relatively rare surname around here.

In regard to the wrong information, and no one willing to change it.
The best one I have come across was when my best gen-buddy and I tried to
convince this fellow who has a major site on my family, that Jane was an only
child, when he had given her two brothers!!
Well, to be fair, he did eventually remove one of them, but he would not
remove that other! I told her to see if that "brother" was living, and if he was
rich or something. Tell him, " I've always wanted to meet you!".
Strange stuff happening out there in cyber space.

Nope, you didn't do anything wrong, and this doesn't have anything to do with moving the INSHELBY site. Phyllis will explain further, but that "Wilson" links to a freepages site that someone else hasn't maintained or has moved. You just happened to find a bad link - THANKS! - John Fleming

I've submitted the new site www.shelbycountyindiana.org to Google. Right
now, if you google "shelby county indiana genealogy", the old rootsweb site
comes up #1 and the new site comes up #21 and #22 (3rd page of Google
listings!). The specific pages listed are
shelbycountyindiana.org/family_records/homepages_famfiles_index.htm and
shelbycountyindiana.org/obituaries/obit_borders.htm
I don't know if this is because Google found these pages or, more likely,
that someone(s) has accessed these pages recently.
Anyway, if you want to help the new site move up in the Google listing,
please hit it when you think of it. The fact that rootsweb has made the old
site inaccessible should also help it to disappear or move down in the
Google listing. We don't want people to think the site doesn't exist
anymore!
Thanks! - John
