I have a Great Aunt Mary Nazalia (Belian) Robbins, b- 18 Dec 1903 in Harrisburg, Banner Co, NE. I noticed on the Shelby Co website that the Mary Robbins they have information on is not my relation. For the Obit lookup I can suggest contacting the libraries in the area, that is what I did for my G-Grandmother's obit. They can usually send you a copy for a small fee.

Subject: [INSHELBY] Nancy Baker
William and Sarah (Castator) Baker are listed on the 1850 census of
Shelby County, Indiana with daughters, Mary, Nancy, Prudence, and
Elmira. Their married children lived nearby.
Part of the family went to Page county, Iowa in the fall of 1850, the
others followed a few years later.
William died Sept. 1, 1850 (where?).
Mary married in Johnson County, Indiana in 1851.
Prudence married in Page County, Iowa in 1853.
The mother, Sarah, remarried in Page County, Iowa in 1856.
Elmira married in Nodaway County, Missouri in 1858.
Nancy disappeared. She was born January 19, 1832 in Indiana.
Need a marriage or cemetery record for her.
One major problem in researching is that she may not be listed as Nancy.
Members of this family often changed their names around.
Mary became Frances M., Prudence became Ann P., David P. became Peter
D., Elmira was sometimes listed as Myra, etc.
I've exhausted most of the major resources, including Ancestry.com.
Thanks,
Jim

Daryl, I believe that your Julius Doolittle was the son of William Doolittle and his 2nd wife Lydia (--?--). A son Julius is listed in their family in the 1850 census in Washington twp., Shelby Co., Indiana. The name is written "Dewlittle." My husband is a descendant of William and his first wife. Ok-so I shouldn't do math this early on a Sunday. Nellie would have been 9
at the time.
Hi all,
I can't help identify anyone, but I will put in another possible name for
the picture. The Moore farm would have been owned by James Madison Moore
in
1895 since his father John Henry Moore died in 1893. James had a daughter
Nellie Ethel Moore (mother would have been his third wife Louise Newcome)
who
was born in 1886 so she would have been 11 at the time. With their home a
block away from the school, I would assume that one of the little girls in
the
picture is her. Nellie married Charles Scott Yeager and was a half-sister
to
my great-grandfather Francis Asbury (aka Azzie) Moore. Maybe a Yeager
researcher can fill in on this!
Diana Moore
Doug Scott sent a scan of a photo taken of the 1895 class at the Noble Twp
school.
If you think you might be able to identify any of the students, please
look!

Petition to make MEANS children wards of Gordon's Children's Home, 1913.
http://www.shelbycountyindiana.org/courthouse/civil_records/civ_means.htm
CARLISLE
I have looked for petitions like this in the 1890s but couldn't find any. If anyone knows the history (or even has any clues) about our child welfare system, I would love to hear it.
Thanks, P
