More on moldy books
by Phyllis Miller Fleming
Tony Newton, Shelby County Commissioner and Beverly Stiers, ICPR, have
both contacted me in the last 30 minutes.
Their stories match and also line up with Susan Armstrong's "take" on the
situation after going to the meeting last night.
It is basically all good news:
The State of Indiana is coming down to review the situation after the first
of the year. They were willing to come this Friday, but our county offices
are closed this Friday. The ICPR will inventory the books and let them know
what can be pitched and what must be saved. I will definitely be there for
the review.
As Clerk of our the Shelby County Court, Carol Stohry, is the link between
the IPRC and the records. Carol has a clear head and will make good
decisions. Carol's vault is in great order. The books in question are not
her direct responsibility.
Per Tony Newton, "almost all" of the books at Shelby Manor came from Pearson
School. As I shared in my last email, it is my perception that these are
books that belonged in the Treasurer's and Assessor's vault. Mr. Newton
said that only one room at the Manor was in bad shape (ceiling leak), but he
wants all the books moved asap. Mr. Newton is willing to donate anything to
the SCGS that the county is not required to keep.
Please pray that we have a dry spell here until the books are moved.
