Thanks Barb.
If anyone knows of this PHILLIPS family, my husband ties in with Carrie.
Their ancestry leads back to the Mayflower and John ALDEN and Priscilla
MULLINS.
Carrie's grandmother was Sarah KINNEY, whose mother was Alice LINDER,
father, Marshall KINNEY. My husband's ancestor also was Alice LINDER,
through her second marriage to John W HUNTSMAN. They lived in Belmont Co OH.

Thank you! I was sent new information that the school my Young and his
brother-in-law Kitchell started was near the present Hanover church. It is rather
confusing
as this memoir says another school [Baptist} was started in a building that
stands today in Hanover cemetery. Then she says they erected this church as a
"Christian Church". This may have been at Morristown. So, is the Hanover Church
and cemetery at two different places?
Carleen
...same booklet
Morristown and Community
The Baptist church at Hanover transferred to the
Christian church and continued holding their services
at Hanover until 1880, when they erected their present
building in Morristown. This building was remodeled
and enlarged a few years ago. (1946).
The Town of Hanover..
The first church at Hanover was organized July 26,
1823, according to the original document, now the
property of Mrs. Ina Logan Gordon, excerpts from which
state. "A number of Brethern and Sisters of the
Regular Baptist Order with letters of recommendation,
together with one recently baptised, met at the house
of Moses Blood for the purpose of uniting together in
Church Order, under the name Brethern and Sisters
expressing a desire of uniting in Chhurch relation:
Present, William Oldham, James Tyner, Jepe Miller,
Jonathan Hill, Solomon Tyner, George Penwell, David
Fisher, Isaac Benjamin, Richard Tyner, Anna Blood,
Rachel Miller, Arvilla Dyer, Almene Stone, Rebeckah
Cole, Arletta Benjamin, Nanny Hill, Martha Osborn,
Anna Penwell, Presilla Tyner, Jeremiah Tyner."
Early school records of Hanover show that the first
school was held there in 1823 in the homes of the
settlers at night, and was taught by Levi Young,
Moses, and John Kitchell. The first teacher regularly
employed (subscription school) was Moses Blood, who
taught a term in 1824 in a log cabin which stood near
the present site of the Hanover church in section 23.
It is assumed, as was the case in other early
settlements, that this cabin was used both for school
and church purposes.
Who was your Stone connection? Can't recall the name.

Thanks Jill,
When I think abt it, a lot of my family are not buried in the graveyards
nearest to their homes. I am speaking of wagon days too.
So he could be buried anywhere thereabouts.
Carleen
There was a church and a town of Hanover at one time. Now it's nothing but
the graveyard. I don't ever recall hearing that the church was Presbyterian
though. More likely Methodist or Christian. I may be wrong, but thinking
about the people I know that are buried there, they all belonged to one of
those churches elsewhere.
Jill
My memory is faulty and it seems my Kitchells may have been Presbyterian,
not Episcopal. Does anyone know if there was a Presbyterian Church in Hanover,
maybe Freeport?
Carleen
Hi Carleen,
Duh! What am "I" thinking?? I already have the Kitchel
line well documented 'across the pond'. I was
inquiring about the Thomas line 1790 in Maryland and
pre 1790 documentation of their location in Wales.
Yes, I would love a copy of the photos of the Kitchel
stones in NJ! Just email them. I have photos of the
stones with dates of Sylvester Thomas and Calistia
Kitchel Thomas in the Liberty Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Shelby Co. if you would like a copy. Liberty Cemetery
(very small) is located N of Shelbyville off State
Road #9 to the East about 1.5 miles.

What am I thinking? Check out Melinda's web page, she is our "cousin" too,
and she has the whole immigrant lines there, from the book "Robert Kitchel & His
Family".
Sorry Melinda, I just forgot!
http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/family_records/fam_kitchell.htm
Hi Anne,
Yes, I know you are from Piercy too. You sent me that wonderful picture of
the Thomas's. I wish I had one of Lucinda like that. I bet if there was one it
was passed down by one of her daughters. Are there any of their decendants out
there?
They are Caroline Young Sherrill; Elizabeth Young Cory; Sarah Young Lewark.
As far as we know they all lived and died within a county or two of Shelby
Co.
I have no idea where Piercy is buried. But he did have land near that Hanover
Cem, so it is a good place, as any, to look. He was well off, relatively, so
I would expect him to have a stone.
His ancestors were Episcopal, or Church of England, I think, back in NJ. They
are all buried in church yards. I have some pictures of one of our couple's
stones there, if you would like them? The county took them up and refurbished
them pretty recently. My cousin took the pictures. I have more that you would
probably like very much, unless I have already shared them with you?
I tried the USGS mapping site yesterday and it did not show any cemeteries in
the Hanover region. I wonder how many there may be, including family plots?
Lucinda Kitchell Young lived at Freeport at one time.
Where is Liberty located?
As to the Kitchell's English background that is all on line and I believe it
to be fairly accurate. There is plenty out there and the lastest correct old
mistakes.
Carleen
Carleen,
If you find it, please let me know! I am a descendent
through Moses and Piercy's daughter...Calista.
Calista is buried in Liberty Cemetery, Shelby Co. IN,
wife of Sylvester Thomas. Hopefully, someone has a
listing of Hanover Cemetery! Have you ever crossed the
Pond? Looking for this Kitchel family in British
Isles.

Has there been a survey of Hanover Cemetery? I wonder if the Kitchells, [or
my Levi Young], are buried there. Also I don't know what happened to Lucinda
Kitchell Young Stone and her 2nt husband, Alfred Stone. They may have lived in
Van Buren twp when they died though.
