I received the copy of an obituary for my Grandmother Dec. 1927 Indianapolis
paper. On the sheet was the following obituary. I have no connection with
this person but it stated that she was born in Shelby County and so I thought I
would list the obit and hope it will help someone.
Mrs. Carrie Shaw
Mrs. Carrie Shaw, 54 years old, a resident of Indianapolis twenty-one years,
died Wednesday at her home, Harlan Street, following an illness of three
weeks. Brief funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning at the
residence. The body then will be removed to Fountaintown, where another
service will be held at 1 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be
at Fountaintown.
Mrs. Shaw was born Nov. 3, 1873, in Shelby County, near Fountaintown, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Willard. She attended the Danville Normal School
and later was a school teacher. She was a member of the Fairview M.E. Church
of Indianapolis.
She is survived by the husband, Joshua Shaw; two sons, Floyd and Sidney Shaw;
three daughters, Mrs. Hallie Schmidt, Mrs. Alice Israel and Mrs. Mina Shaw,
all of Indianapolis, and three brothers, Dr. J.R. Willard of Fairland, Charles
Willard of Fort Wayne and Otto Willard of Indianapolis, and a sister, Mrs.
Alice Miller of Fort Wayne.
Hope this helps.

Theresa,
Do you know where this family lived prior to moving to Shelby Co?
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
Surnames: Reed, Stone
Classification: Query
Message Board URL:

Message Board Post:
I kow that Leonard Reed lived in Shelby County for the 1830 Indiana Federal Census. His listing shows that he had a wife between the ages of 20 - 30.
In 1835, Leonard Reed married Elizabeth Stone in Cass County, Indiana.
I believe that his first wife died sometime (obviously) between the 1830 census taking and 1835 when he remarried. I have no idea of his first wife's name, white she died from, and/or whether or not she died in Shelby County.
There is also a man (if I remember right, his name was Isaiah) named Stone in the Shelby County 1830 census. I don't believe Elizabeth lived in his home in 1830, however, I am thinking she may very well have been an older sister or something. She would have been between 30 and 40 years of age for the 1830 census (same as Leonard).
If anybody has any information on Leonard Reed's first wife or his second wife's family, I would love to know.
I am researching a book and I have already proved that Elizabeth Stone was Leonard Reed's second wife (proved that these are the two individuals that I am writing about at any rate...).
Please email me at SMassey(a)WMSGaming.com or AutumnLeaves1317(a)aol.com. These email addresses are good until 5/21 (then I am moving and don't know for sure yet what my new address will be). Thank you all so much!

Hi Susan,
Yes, I would like copies of it, do you want my snail mail address or can you
scan them? Whatever is best for you.
Thanks for the information.
Ruth Morton
I have copies of the index cards from the Gordon's Children Home for the children of theis couple; Morris (Maurice), Walter, Helen, Dorothy and Harry. These cards have their birthdates and any admission dates, discharge dates and placement information. If you would like this copy, please let me know. One interesting point on Dorothy's card, she was placed in the home of a Grant Armstrong from St. Paul. I believe that actually was Glant Armstrong, brother to my grandfather.

The census taker often put down his personal feelings. I've run across the
occupation of "Worthless." As far as I know, there's only one meaning for
that!
