A week or two ago, Bob Gordon gave us pictures of the Lemon Crate Derby at

the Shelbyville News is about the Lemon Derby.

What a terrible story about the burning of William Bassett's house by Elizabeth Jane (Boone) (Williams) Bassett, step-daughter of William Harrell! Must have been quite a family problem!
The Brandywine Cemetery Transcription Booklet shows on p. 12:
JONAS, Jacob Francis Oct 1, 1849 - Mar 5, 1914 (F) h/o Orilda Ann
JONAS, Joseph Leonard Nov 1888 - Dec 5, 1915 (F) s/o Jacob & Orilda
JONAS, Orilda Ann Nov 11, 1852 - Jul 31, 1936 (F) w/o Jacob
This is under the heading of "Unmarked Graves" and the (F) indicates a family member supplied the information. Hope this helps. - Mary
Phyllis, wanted to explain to you that I am in Omaha with my daughter and did not realize my friend in Mo. was forwarding our progress reports from my daughter to you. She has taken some of my addresses and put them in a folder and sends them. I noticed when one of my friends tonight wrote back you were included. Sorry about that.
We have a lap top here and using web mail which is difficult and we send the reports out and they get passed on. I appreciate very much your tremendous contribution to Shelby County, In. history. I just cannot imagine how many people and families you are connecting, both living and deceased. Gratefully, Jane Wisdom

I wondered if any of these Heifners came from VA. I have some information
on some from Highland and Pendleton Counties, Pendleton now WVA. The name
was spelled Heavner, or Heavener, but some descendants became Hefner,
inlcuding Hugh Hefner. They intermarried into the Flesher or Fleischer
families from the same area, early 1800's.

Jann,
I have temporarily lost all of my e-mail addresses, so I'm sending this to

Someone sent this site to me for my Baden ancestors.

Christengemeinden orientiertes Gemeinwesen aufzubauen.
Rapp baute wiederum in

S.286-290.

My grandmother, Lucy E. Ridley was born in Paoli, Indiana June 17, 1911. On her birth certificate it states that her parents were James & Maggie (Vaughn) Ridley and there birth places were IN. Lucy married my grandfather Merritt Embert Martin in Shelby Co, IN July 2, 1927. Lucy died tragically as a result of an accidental poisoning at the age of 23, on Dec. 16, 1934. (I have the newspaper articles). I am seeking any information about Lucy's parents James Ridley & Maggie A. Vaughn.
On Lucy's birth certificate it states that her father, James was 30 yrs of age and her mother, Maggie was 25 yrs of age. Lucy also has a sister, Mary E. Ridley b. 1908.
I appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Ruth

I have ggrandmother, Orilda Steward married to ggrandfather, Jacob Francis Jonas in Shelby County, IN, March 16, 1871. This is verified from an old marriage certificate. One of their children, a daughter was my ggrandmother, Minerva J. Jonas, b. Feb. 9,1889 in Shelby Co. I am seeking information about Orilda. I know nothing else about her except I heard she was born in either IN or KY and the year of her birth varies from 1852-1869. Thank you for your help.
Ruth
Have been trying to access these marriages and page
will not come up from the web site. Does this need to
be checked or is it just my web server?

At first glance this will not make sense. In the 1880 census for Shelby county, Brandywine township, there was a family headed by G W Thurston, 20, farmer, included were son Samuel H, 18, farmer, son John N, 16, daughter Hulda M, 12, son Joshua, N, 10, and daughter Martha R, 8. All born in Indiana as well as their parents. Two families above them in the census was a family headed by William, 56, farm laborer, born in Penn as well as both parents, included were his wife Elizabeth, 29, keeping house, born in Ky as well as both parents, son Levi, 7, son Andrew J, 5, daughter Nora, 3, and son Sanford, 5/12. All children born in Ind. Just guessing but I would surmise that William lost his first wife and the family headed by G W were in fact those of William. The ages of Martha R and Levi would tend to bear that out as well as the fact that no way could they be those of G W. Hope this helps. Good luck. Don
