Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I don't really know anything about George Crosby. I believe that it was you,
Barb, who sent me Caroline's obit. It was she (a KINNEY) who was related to
me - distantly. Her father Nathaniel KINNEY and my greatgrandfather

From the context I take this to mean a distiller.
"Recess merchant" brings up nothing; I wonder whether this means a
merchant in recess, i.e., temporarily retired.

destroyed by a group charged for riot etc... No names were listed, but
most of the damage was to Mr. Hardin's liqour stock. Several shots had
been fired, no one was killed but one was wounded.........The Methodist
Meeting House had received some bullets through its upper front windows.
Several liquor and molasses barrels had been stoved in.

A long list of premiums were in this issue which were to be offered by the
Shelby County Agricultural Society at the Fair to be held September 27th,
28th and 29th...It included cash, silver cups, mustard spoons, silver
thimbles,
silver spoons, etc.
Hadley D. Johnson esq, formerly of Shelbyville wrote from Nebraska as to
their intention in that state that it be a free state as to slavery.
A good corn crop was anticipicated and also an average wheat crop........
At a large Democrat meeting at the court house June 24th, G.W. Brown
had been chosen chairman and D. Thacher secretary......Honorable J.L.
Robinson, Mr. McQuerry, M.M. Ray, Honorable O.B. Torbet, and General
J.P. Drake had addressed the crowd.
Isaas Heiss and brother had opened their new ice cream saloon in Shelby-
ville opposite the Volunteer office....They also advertised their bakery and
confectionery.

I don't know if Indiana had a state census but most state censuses were
taken between the Federal Census years- so possibly 1895, 1905, 1915 for
example. I know that Wisconsin has state censuses and they were in the
years ending in "5".

The Indiana State Library Genealogy Division's Cemetery Database at
http://199.8.200.90:591/cemetery.html lists two Bennett Cemeteries in
Shelby County, none in Rush. One is in Hanover Twp, the other in
Sec. 19 of Union Twp.
The US Geological Survey list of Shelby Co Cemeteries at

lists the Bennett Cemetery in Union Twp NE of Rays Crossing on 575E,
south of Union Road. A map is linked to this website.
