Yes, Little Blue Friends is a Quaker meeting. It was originally called
Walnut Ridge Meeting (very descriptive) and initially part of Duck Creek
Monthly Meeting (1834). As population built up in the area, its care
was transferred to Carthage Monthly Meeting. It remained part of
Carthage MM until 1969, and is now under Spiceland MM (Henry Co IN).
The name was changed to Little Blue River Friends in 1884 (also
descriptive). It is in Posey Twp, Rush Co, although the PO address is
Morristown (Shelby Co)! It is north and slightly west of Manilla and
still an active meeting. The meetinghouse and the burial grounds are in
Rush Co. It is in a secluded area and quite lovely.
As you can tell, I am quite attached to my Quaker roots. None of my
family lived in this area, but my husband's maternal ancestors fill the
burial grounds at Little Blue River: BARNARD SWAIN LINVILLE RIGSBEE.

I have a Nancy WEBB b: Aug. 14, 1818 and according to the family bible
was born in Virginia, but the 1850 Shelby, In. Census shows Ohio. d:
Dec. 27, 1883 buried in Marion Cemetery, Marion Twp., Shelby Cty., In.
m: Jacob Jr. MINCKS Feb. 26, 1835 in Rush County, In.
The info I have on Nancy WEBB is that she was born in 1818 and was the
next to the youngest of sixteen (16) children. Her mother was born Lucy
JERREL. The name on Nancy Burial Stone is MEEKS
In 1858 Jacob MINCKS (thru the courts) changed his name to MEIKS and his
grandson's name was changed to MEEKS sometime after 1870.
Looking for HELP. Thanks, Dave Richey
The name Padrick sounded familiar so I checked my records. I only find Mary
Padrick who married Frederick Bowman b. 1881 and d. 1899. I show 2 children:
Fannie Bowman who marrried C. Herman Jose and Addie Bowman who married Adrian
Carpenter. This is probably no help but thought I would send it along. I do
have extensive information on the Bowman family.

Ach, another Little Blue Cemetery. This must be Quaker then if it's called
Friends. Was there a Little Blue Friends Monthly Meeting? Do you know what
township it's in?

Does anyone recognize the name Daniel Padrick? He was born in Currituck Co,
NC in 1798 and married Margaret Casey in 1818. By 1850 he was living in
Shelby Co. Daniel and Margaret had 14 children before she died, and then
Daniel married 3 more times. His last wife was Rachel Hendricks, and they
had 6 children. After Daniel's death in the 1880's, I lose track of Rachel
and her children. Any help on this couple and any of their children will be
appreciated.

I'm a little late reading my email and joining this string...
There are MANY burial markers for LINVILLEs in the Little Blue Friends
burial ground which sits on the east side of the Rush-Shelby Co line.

Hi,
The lady's bible states "Little Blue" instead of just "Blue" so I guess that
would be the one in Union Township, and perhaps the researcher who told me
that there were many BROWNS in the Union twp cemetery was mistaken--that
part about many Browns buried there also may be an accidental
speculation--I've never been there...yet. The lady who currently has that
bible has not yet contacted me about a meeting so that I may have a
photocopy, although she lives only 15 min. from my home. I hope she gets
around to that someday, but I don't want to make myself a pest (but I'd like
it if she'd be in more of a hurry).
Thanks,
Diane

Is that Blue River Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Township? I assume it
is
since that's where the Browns are buried.
There's also the Blue River Chapel Cemetery in Marion Township. However, I
recall seeing Little Blue River Cemetery cited in other documents, is it one
of these or another cemetery altogether?
I could kick myself for not paying attention as a kid when the folks dragged
me to all the cemeteries around Memorial Day. Too soon old and too late
smart!

Jill,
I looked on the township maps and found both. Blue River Chapel Cem. is in
Marion Township. There is another one in Union Township. It's the Little
Blue River Chapel Cem. Does this help?

I would like some information on the Shelby County Children's Home.
My father James Albert Nugent, his brother Cecil Nugent and two sisters
Mable and Leona Nugent were all put into this institution November 18,
1910. I have been told they were put there by their mother. Is there
any way of finding out anything about this event? I have no idea of why
they were put there. Any information would be appreciated.

Hello list,
Just in case anyone is doing this family, Mathew Brown b.ca 1763 Ireland,
who is named in the Brown Biography below, had a son David just as stated in
the bio; however it says he was married to "unknown"--the unknown woman in
this case is one of my branches named Susan Glidewell b.1782, daughter of
William Glidewell b.1760 VA and Susannah (surname unknown thought to be
Fountaine)--both William and Susannah Glidewell are written about in a bible
as being buried at Little Blue Cemetery like many of the Browns although no
headstone can be read that marks their exact location.
Also, Susan Glidewell's sister Elizabeth married a BROWN--Thomas Brown, and
they married in 1800 Laurens Co. SC before the whole group moved to the
Hamilton Co. OH/Franklin Co.IN area between 1807-1810. I am not sure how
Thomas is related but I just know that he is supposed to be a cousin to the
above David.
Just trying to help someone make connections. Thanks.
Diane

Shelbers,
Jann asked for a description of marriage returns (re: books for sale).
They are similar to the marriage applications used after 1900, but not
quite as informative. The ones Mr. Holmes found in the vault and used
for his books include:
residence
occupation
age
father's name
mother's name
1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc) marriage
marriage date
I hope to uncover the originals someday, but until then, Mr. Holmes'
books of returns are real lifesavers. I guess that would be
life-finders.
P
Jann,
The marriage returns are like what we have online. It gives the bride and
groom's names and date of marriage and the book and page number where the
marriage license was recorded.
