I agree with John. Not all of these people listed came as early as
1821. I think the preceding pages list the 1821 settlers.
Also, I recognize the Hendricks Twp families grouped together.

>Shelby Co's earliest settlers, Brant & Fuller, 1887
>http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/history_earliest_settlers.htm
This list from pp 303-305 is introduced by the statement
"Early Settlements - 1821 During the year 1821, settlements were made
in almost every part of the county. Indeed, they were made so rapidly
that it is difficult to tell which is entitled to the priority. Those
who were prominent among the early settlers of the various parts of
the county, not elsewhere mentioned."
This could be read to indicate that the list is of those who arrived
in 1821, but the last sentence quoted refers simply to "early"
settlers and in fact it contains those who arrived during the 1820s,
and probably some who arrived in the early 1830s.
I suspect that the list is grouped by township. The
Ballard-Ensminger-Trackwell-McNeely-Rucker family that arrived in
Liberty Twp (and adjacent Orange Twp of Rush Co) from Logan Co VA is
grouped together with their early neighbors, with whose families
their children married: French, Creek, Haymond and Youngman.

Hi Gayle ~
Just saw your post and would love to know what info you have on Mildred
Snedeker's family!
My great-great-great grandmother was Elnor Snedeker Conover, b. 1821 in
NJ and came out to Vigo Co IN about 1840. We've been trying to locate her
family for a long time, with little luck. We suspect some of the Snedekers
in Vigo and elsewhere in IN may be related to her, so are interested in
finding more out about all we come across.
Thanks!

In reading the list of early settlers, a breakthrough in my thinking: the one
line listing William Oley and Webbster Milkins is probably William, Otey and
Webb Wilkins.
I also wonder about the John Wyckoff - was there a John Wyckoff in Shelby
Co.- or is this John Wickliff.

In checking my email today I find "History of Shelby County" by Brant & Fuller 1887 on pg 303 a listing of the first settlers of Shelby Co. It was copied by Judith Lucero. In the list is a James Lee and William Hawkins. These are relatives of mine; James being the son of my Joseph Lee of Jackson Twp., Mt Auburn, IN. Could you please advise me how best to find out more about them. Is this book for sale? After five years of searching it would sure be a pleasure to find a break through. Thank you so much, Ellen P.S. Keep up the wonderful work!

This was sent through another list that I am on. Thought some of you would be interested.
On Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, the Chicago Sun-Times ran an article stating that
Oxford University has conducted research using mitochondrial DNA (inherited
through female lines only) and concluded that everyone alive today is
descended from one of 33 ancient tribes that existed during the Ice Age.
They have designated names and areas for these tribes: 13 from Africa, 11
from Western Eurasia, 8 from Eastern Eurasia, and 1 spans Eurasia and the
Americas. Most Europeans are descended from 7 ancestors, which Oxford named "The 7 Daughters of Eve." This provides a direct and undiluted link to our maternal ancestors, giving rise to every race and ethnic group on every
continent.
As we know in genealogy, simply living in a country doesn't necessarily mean
you can actually trace your ancestry to that country.
If you're interested in reading about this, go to www.oxfordancestors.com
for more information. Incidentally, Oxford charges $180 for this DNA test.
They send out a free test kit, you take a simple swab from inside your cheek and mail it to them. It takes about a month. You pay when the test is
completed.
I always knew that science and technology would interact with genealogy
someday, it appears that day is here!

born June 1895, in Indiana, and a daughter, Edna, born July 1899 in Indiana.
In addition to the children listed, it shows Mother in law, Mary M. Reece,
who was born Feb, 1826, North Carolina. I have Alonzo's marriage
certificate, it shows Julia Reece. It has them married September 16, 1890,

was born October 11, 1871, in Indiana died July 10, 1965, in Lewisville,
Henry County, Indiana; I have their marriage certificate. They were married
