Which Palmer that Margaret "Maggie" Raney married is also a puzzle I am working
on. I have seen her listed, on online trees, being the spouse of a John Palmer and they
had children, he later lived with one those children in Ohio where he is listed as widowed
- if I am following the census trail correctly, that is, in using the thought she married
a John Palmer.
The puzzle on my side is that it appears the census reports for two Palmer families in
1860 and 1870 may contain errors. Blaney Palmer Sr. is listed, if one combines the two
reports' information, as to having three sons: James (~1851), John (~1854), and Blaney
(~1863). He lived nearby to his brother John Palmer who is listed to having Daniel
(~1851), Sylvanus James (~1852) , John (~1855/56), and William Jesse (~1859). Problem
I've encountered is that Blaney's wife died in 1893 and her obit mentioned the
couple had TWO sons, not three, and they had five daughters - and mentions that one of
these daughters died before the mother. The online trees I have come across have Margaret
Raney listed as the wife fo Blaney's son John or John's son John - just seems to
depend which tree on which John will have her listed as their spouse.
However, fact remains that, according to his wife's obit, Blaney Palmer is listed with
one additional child that is not his or his wife's. I wish the obit went on to list
the children's names, but it only mentioned how many children she had with Blaney. I
believe the error exists on Blaney's census and that James is the "son" in
question and explains why 'he' doesn't appear on the 1870 for the same family.
I would be interested in which John is which - and find out what happened to the one
ending up to not being the one who married Margaret Raney.
