There was a Franke who was a minister between the Lutheran Church at Crossroads (St
Paul's Lutheran) and the Lutheran church at Spades. Please, remember that both
churches burned (wooden frame buildings) at one time, and so the records of membership,
burial, etc were destroyed. I do know that the members of St Paul's worked to
reconstruct the records, but, of course, there are gaps.
This Franke family entered the US through the port of New Oleans and traveled up the
Mississippi to Indiana. He, and his family, ran the general store and depot at Spades as
well as serving as minister for the two churches.
John and Barbara Aplanalp Drescher are buried in the churchyard at St Paul's
(Crossroads)along with their son, who is buried next to them. Their daughter, who married
a Clemens, is buried in the new cemetery, down the road from St Paul's Church; another
son, Alfred, is buried at St John's in Huntersville, which is now a part of the
Batesville community.
I do not know anything about the Holzhasen family.
I am not connected to any of these families, but attend St Paul's and know members of
the Aplanalp family.
