While Indiana began keeping birth records in 1882, it is estimated that they
were very lax about it in earliest years and one might have only about a 30%
chance that the birth was actually recorded. I know of no WPA indeces for
Ripley county.
Depending on how long the family remained in the area, the cemetery
records at the Ripley Web site and the wonderful volumes of Ripley county
family trash and treasure collected by Violet Toph might be useful. The
Indiana State Library also has copies of Toph's collections.
