Dear Friends and Relatives,
I know this post does not contain genealogical content, but in the fine
tradition of public spirit which our Tennessee ancestors had, I hope
that you will post this to the list. Please read the following and pass
it along quickly.
**********************
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation plans to have our banks
continuously monitor our bank account activity, and report "unusual"
activities which do not match our "normal" banking patterns.
In the FDIC's proposal, which would amend federal regulations, banks
should ascertain the typical sources of each customer's funds (ie,
payroll, merchant funds, etc.) and monitor the customer's transactions
to ensure that the customer is banking money from his normal or
customary sources. The bank is also to determine if the customer's
income sources have a high or low potential for illicit activities, and
report to federal investigators any transaction that looks like it might
fit the "looks like a duck, walks like a duck" illicit funds profile.
This is shocking, and a complete invasion of our privacy. If this seems
unbelievable, go to the website below and read the actual FDIC
proposal. You can make your views heard; however, the public comment
period on this regulation expires this coming Monday, March 8th.
Please go to
http://www.defendyourprivacy.com/ and read the information
contained at this site. Please look at the Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ section) and examine the FDIC proposal as well. You can sign the
petition which will be forwarded to the FDIC, and you can write your
congressmen from the site as well.
PLEASE take a few minutes and read up on this. If you don't want our
banks to do this, sign the petition and pass this information far and
wide on your email lists. Do it quickly. There is a way to email your
friends this information through the website as well. Thanks for your
action on this important issue.
Best wishes,
Janna Trevisanut
