Dear List,
I am seeking any descendants of Leone Stevens Baney (1877 - 1965) and James I. Baney (23
Aug. 1877 -- 17 Aug. 1933), both buried at Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles.
Leone is one of my great-great aunts with whom my part of the family has lost all contact
of living descendants.
My aunt, Corinne Stevens Barricklow, passed away a few weeks ago, and among her many
photographs we found several of Leone Stevens Baney, her husband James, and their
children, the apparent eldest of whom is also names James I. Baney, born perhaps at the
turn of the century.
I subscribe to
Ancestry.com, but found nothing for James & Leone Baney in the census
of 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, in Indiana or Ohio. James is an Ohio native, Leone, a Hoosier.
A Rainey family was in the county, so maybe there. I've only had time to try a few
variations, but it surprises me that my Great Aunt Leone Baney, buried in 1965, would have
too many spelling problems. ...??
I have come home with several original photoes of this family that I would love to pass on
to the desecndants if they can be located. Aunt Leone wore wonderful feathered hats, and
James Baney was obviously a business man with a high self-esteem. It is clear that he
liked to be able to dress his wife in the fashion of the time.
The photograph of their son, James I. Baney (junior, I presume), is way too cute, with him
in a jungle helmet and standing in a wicker chair. We can only guess that James, Jr.
would have been born about 1900 - 1910, but feel pretty clueless. Even though James, Sr.,
was born in Ohio, he is buried in Cliff Hill, and so is Aunt Leone. We have no idea
whether any of the children lived. I can't find them in a census.
Any help locating the family would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bryce Stevens
