According to the Ripley County History Volume 2
Batesville Has a distinct history apart form Laughery Township and Ripley County.
It's antecedents ar to be found in Oldenburg and Huntersville in Ray Township of
Franklin County as much as in Ballstown in Laughery Township.
Although Batesville was initially platted 1/2 mile inside Ripley County's
boundaries, meteropolitan newspaper articles and TV programs have sometimes
treated Batesville as if it were part of Franklin County. Indeed Huntersville,
the oldest settled part of what is now Batesville, is in Franklin County.

Hope this helps
