Message Board Post:
Michael,
My information shows John Hiner b: 1788 married Catherine Hubble (Hubbel) - no dates (from
the Charles Heiner letter).
I found John Hiner in the 1820 Federal Census, Ripley County, IN. On this census it shows
two (2) white males to 10 yrs of age, one white male 27-45 and one white female 27-45 and
notes they are in agriculture.
I have John Hiner in the 1830 Federal Census, Ripley County, IN. This shows two (2) males
under 5 yrs; two (2) males 5-10 yrs; one (1) male 10-15; one male 40-50 yrs and one female
30-40.
I am unable to find John Hiner in the 1840 census.
The 1850 Federal Census (Ripley County, Jackson Township) shows John Hiner, age 63,
farmer, born in PA; wife Katherine age 58, born PA, indicates she can read and write;
Abram, age 24, farmer, born in In. and also a Rebecca Robinson, age 48, born in either
Penn or Tenn, indicates she can read and write. I would be curious to know if Rebecca is
a sister to John or Katherine.
In the 1860 census John Hiner now has "Sr." behind his name, age 73 and wife
Catherine, age 66.
My gg grandfather, Abraham Hiner b 1826, married Ruth Funkhouser on Sept 1, 1851 in Ripley
County, IN. Ruth was the daughter of David and Susannah (Castor) Funkhouser.
Abraham and Ruth moved to Appanoose County, Iowa in 1854 (according to the 1856 census)
Children:
Emery b: 1852 in IN - married Emily Castor
John Fletcher b: abt 1854 in IN. - married Julia Nowels
Leann b: 8/6/1855 Moravia, IA - married Lyman Con Main
Lindley b: 12/26/1856 d: 5/8/1863
Lemley b: 10/28/1858 in Ia. - married Alfareta Broshar
Jeanette b: 5/14/1860 in Ia - married Franklin P. Hamilton
Arthelia b: abt 1862 in Ia - married William H. McKern
Sarah Laney or Lanah b: 5/1864 - married Charles Stockwell
Susan Caroline b: 9/9/1866 - married Aaron Wash Kincade
I have found Abraham listed as Abram, A., Abraham and on his death certificate as Abe.
His headstone is "Abraham". Abraham died 8/6/1902 in Taylor Township, Appanoose
county, Iowa, buried at Salem Cem., Iconium, IA.
I believe one of Abraham's brothers is George (b: abt 1821) who married Margaret
Funkhouser (older sister of Ruth) - they married in 1842. George and Margaret came to
Appanoose County in 1849 (according to 1856 census).
Children:
Minerava b: abt 1843 in IN. married Erastus Brown
Jacob b: abt 1845 in IN - married Susan Ford
John W. b: abt 1847 in IN - married Samatha Tissue
David b: abt 1870 in IA - married Mary E. Main
Milford b: abt 1872 in Ia - died
Susan b: abt 1855 in Ia
Marancia b: abt 1857 in Ia died
Elmore b: 1860 in Ia - died.
I believe George Hiner died in York County, NE. where his son, Jacob, lived.
Obviously there was also a brother, John Jr., due to the 1860 census in Ripley County. I
have found in the 1850 federal census, Jackson Township, Ripley County, a John Hiner, age
26, married to Eliza, age 29. Children: John- age 3, Elizabeth- age 1 and Mary E. age
1/12. I just don't know if this is the correct John (Jr.)
If the 1830 Ripley County Census is correct, there were 5 sons to John and Catherine. I
have yet to tie whom the other two sons may be.
Were you able to find any other children for John Hyner and Catherine Dively?
I have further breakdown of Abraham's grandchildren if you are interested.
I appreciate you following up on this with me. I would very much like to learn what you
have on the Dively line.
Thanks,
Marla
