Carol, just wanted to make a correction to your post re Jane WATERS being kidnapped as a
yound girl by the Indians. It was her father, Thomas M. WATERS and Thomas' sister who
were kidnapped by the Indians while they were children. My great grandfather D.L. McNEW
stated that in his diary. He also stated that as adults they were released by the Indians
and they returned to the white settlements, never knowing his family or who he was. I do
not know whether his name was WATERS or if he just took the name.
DL also stated that Jane (Jenny) had two brothers, one who became a prominent Baptist
minister.
John Brushcreek McNEW died on 5 June 1876 in Indiana and is buried with his wife in Old
Hopewell Cemetery.
