According to information I was able to gather the Ripley news was:
1835 First Newspaper 'The Intelligencer' by B.B. Root till 1856
1850 'Ripley's County Whig' newspaper by John Barnett.
1854 'The Literary Messenger' was established at Versailles, IN (1 yr)
1855 'The Ripley Co. America' by Edw. F. Sibley (few months)
1856 'The Dispatch' by Ross Alley, in 1858 sold it to brother.
1858 'The Versailles Gazette ' was estab. by J.B. Rebuck....a few months
later it was sold
to Foy & Co. (See 1859)
1859 'The Ripley Co. Journal' estb. at Versailles by Foy & Co. until 1868
when it was
moved to Osgood.
Note: I got articles from the 'Ripley Co. Journal' , 'Osgood Journal' ,
'Versailles Rebublican',
Also, the 'Farmers Friend' later was in circulation.
Hope this helps answer your question. .......Carolyn Cowan Oberle
