Just for fun, I'm throwing out this shot in the dark. I'm stuck trying to
discover where my immigrant great grandfather was born in Germany. So I'm listing
what I have on the Ripley County GEIGER family, to see if anyone might have any additional
data.
Johann Adam Geiger and Anna Marie (Koehler) Geiger both born Bavaria German in 1825 and
1828.
Left Bremen Germany to NYC on the ship New York, arriving port of NY on 25 October, 1864.
With them were their children: Johann Gottlieb - (born 1825), Johann Thomas (called
Conrad, born 1854), Johann George (born 1856), Johann Nicholas (Niclas? born 1858), Johann
Heinrich (Hnery, approx. born 1860), and Anna Margaret (born 1862).
Anna Marie was good and pregnant during the crossing, as her next girl was Henrietta
Sohpia, born 12/26/1864. Later came Johann Adam (1867), and Lena Mary (1872).
They must have come straight to the Batesville area, and their farm purchase was also in
1946. This farm was 80 acres, bought from Henry Kent??? in 1864, deed dated 3 Jan, 1865.
The farm was 2 1/2 miles south of Batesville off the Delaware Rad. They had a log house,
but that was destroyed later, and the farm was split. The part where the buildings were
is now owned by E. Emsweller (bought about 1978, they specialized, at least for a time, in
strawberries).
Gottlieb raised his family in Johnson County, IN. Married Mary Wirth.
Thomas (Conrad) lived near Schuler, Nebraska with a wife named Minnie. Thomas became a
naturalized citizen. They might have had two girls.
Georg stayed on the Geiger farm and raised his family. He became a naturalized citizen. I
think he had all girls.
Nicholas never married and lived south of Crossroads. The Ed Fruchter?? family lived on
this place.
John Heinrich (Henry) lived in Chicago and never married.
Anna Margaret married a step brother* - John Pfeiffer. Children Elma Sophia (married
Bair), Edward Henry, Milton Jacob, Lulu Anna (married Pigman), John Howard, Hazel La Verne
Pfeiffer (never married). Son John Pfeiffer's family lived in Connersville. John
worked for a lumber company. At this writing (1978), John's widow Mary and his sister
Hazel lived together near Mary's son Richard and family.
Henrietta Sophia married Ed Severinghaus and they operted a laundry in Chicago.
Johann Adam never married (?) and lived in Indianapolis
Lean Mary married Louis Yorn and remained in Batesville.
After Anna Marie died, John Adam married Sohpia Becker Pfeiffer, widow of Jacob Pfeiffer.
She had two sons. One of her sons, John - was the one who married Margaret Geiger.
So - If I happen to find an of the descendants of the above, and they have anything BACK
beyond Johann Adam Gegier (born 1825 Bavaria Germany) - who lived his life in the highly
concentrated German area of Batesville, Ripley Co, IN -I'd sure be interested!
Thanks,
Brenda Geiger/Indianapolis
