Here is the 1840 census film transcription for the neighbors of John
Commiskey. Two pages after the COMMISKEY entry, "Johnson Township" has been
written in the left margin by the census taker. However, on the COMMISKEY
page and on the page before and after it, "Ripley County" is the entry in
the left margin. As noted below, there is a space inserted in the list on
the page prior to the "Johnson Township" page. I am wondering if this
indicates the beginning of Johnson Twp. Any guesses?
Can anyone positively identify the townships in which the following families
lived in 1840? If it is other than Johnson Twp, would you email me?
Other than being neighbors (which was a pretty good tie in 1840), do you
know of other ties between these people?
If you know where any of these people lived prior to Ripley Co, would you
email me?
If you know any of them to be Catholic, would you email me?
If John Comiskey were renting from one of his neighbors, who would be likely
candidates?
I know that one of John Comiskey's sons married a REED in Dearborn Co IN.
Did many of the Ripley Co residents live in Dearborn Co prior to Ripley Co?
If you know any of these people that left Ripley Co between 1840 and 1850,
would you email me?
If you see any names that I have misspelled and/or mistranscribed, please
email!
Except for the page showing John COMMISKEY, I only copied the left-hand side
of the film (the male enumerations), but if you would like that information,
please feel free to ask.
One more note before I start transcribing. I did finish the first stage of
the land platting project before Thanksgiving, however I have never had time
to make copies, so I haven't announced it yet. It is not on one big county
map yet. However, if you would like to have copies of each Township/Range
block and tape them together, making your own map, that part is finished. I
don't know the exact cost of copying and mailing, but under $3, I would
guess.
