I am not related to this person, but stumbled across it and thought some Ripley County
researchers might be interested. I have no further information.

Thamar W. Main June 9, 1899 - June 11, 2000 Thamar William Main, former Selma resident,
died of lymphoma on Sunday, June 11, in his home in New Carlisle, Ind., two days following
his 101st birthday. He was born in Ripley County, Ind., the son of the late William Edward
and Anna Kuhn Main. He was preceded in death by a son, Thamar, and by three sisters and
two brothers. In 1920 he married Donna Irene Pursley. They lived n Mishawaka and Muncie
prior to moving to their farm near Selma in 1936. Donna preceded him in death in 1991
after 70 years of marriage. He later married Eva M. Schwartz, who also preceded him in
death in 1998. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1919 where he was the captain of
the track team and member of the state championship basketball team. Following graduation
from Indiana State Normal School in 1921, he taught industrial arts in Mishawaka, Ind.,
Muncie, Ind., and Middletown, Ind. His teaching career spanned 44 years, 35 of them at
Muncie Central !
High School. Mr. Main was a member of Muncie Masonic Lodge #433, Delaware County Farm
Bureau and the Selma Christ United Methodist church. He was a former boy scout master of
Troop 17 and troop 22, Muncie. He is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul
M. Main of West Hollywood, Calif., Kenneth R. and Vilma Main, New Carlisle, Herbert G. and
Betty Main of Kokomo, Ind., and Jon F. Main of Danville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren including
Karla Cunningham of Osceola, Ind., Debra Main-Rinker, Randall Main, Lisa Hazinski and
Scott Main, all of South Bend; and by 26 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, in Christ
United Methodist church, Selma, with the Reverends Dennis Rush and Paul F. Hill
officiating. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie, following services. Friends may
call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 14, in Meeks Mortuary, Muncie. Memorials may
