The front page, large top headline of The Muncie Star on Thursday, March 17, 1949 is
"THREE ARE KILLED AT WINCHESTER"
"Auto Skids into Path of Train"
The dead were listed as Jack Harlos, 21 of Farmland
Glenn Miller, 20 of Farmland
Max Huffman, 19 of near Ridgeville.
Later, I looked in the Winchester papers for March 17 and March 18 of 1949.
The Mar 17th paper gave survivors and rites for Glenn and for Max.
The Mar 18th gave information about Jack. It said Jack Harless 20, of 3 miles
north of farmland. His funeral would be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Friends Church in
Farmland with Rav. John Randolph in charge. Survivors were his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Harless of 3 miles N of Farmland.
Two sisters, Betty(Gene) Wendell of Farmland; Margaret (John) Davis of Muncie.
The maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Arthur Shull of Muncie.
The great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Dunham of Camden, OH.
The obit of Earl Harless, 84, was in the Nov 16, 1989 Muncie Star. He was born
in Indiana, a farmer, and a member of Farmland Friends Church.
Austin
Thank You Austin. Still doesn't explain the memorial being at Jericho, but
we are getting warmer. Hopefully with this info, and making an editorial
for the newsletter may jog a memory or two hopefully of this item. Andrea
