Steve - just wanted to let you know that Alice Beanblossom passed away
Monday evening. She was Thatcher's sister-in-law.

Nancy - you got it right! Here is Thatcher's obit.
Steve
Thatcher W. Soule
Thatcher W. Soule, 83, of Union City, Ind., died Saturday morning,
April
18, 1992, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after a brief
illness. [Jenn's note - UC no longer has a hospital, and many folks go over
to Muncie]
He was born in San Francisco, Calif., attended schools there, including the
University of California at Berkley. He moved to Indiana in 1943, where he
served in the Army-Air Force stationed at Baer Field in Fort Wayne. After
the war, he was employed at Overmyer Corporation [This place makes moulds
for the glass industry, including Anchor Hocking] in Winchester for 30
years, retiring in 1973. He was then employed at the House of Flavers Ice
Cream parlor in Union City and Daily Dipper in Farmland until 1990.
Surviving is his wife, Maxine Green Soule of 48 years; two sister-in-laws,
Bobbie Mock and Alice Beanblossomer, both of Union City,
and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at the Buena Vista Cemetery near
Farmland. [This cemetery is actually listed as being in Winchester, which
is nearby.] There will be no calling hours.
Meeks Mortuary in Muncie is in charge of arrangements.

Hi Steve,
You asked in an earlier email if I could describe Thatch. I can give you my
impression of him but my daughter would be the person to ask since she
worked directly with him. The Thatch I remember was a tall, slightly stooped
man with brown thinning hair. He was very quiet and unassuming. In fact, I
hardly remember him speaking at all unless it was to ask, "What flavor would
you like?"
And now for perhaps a coincidence. The owner of the House of Flavors was
Alice Ferguson, nee Green. It could be that she and Elizabeth Maxine Green
were closely related. She has since remarried and her name now is
Beanblossom. I worked with Alice and her sister Bobby at our local
Westinghouse plant for many years before it closed.
I don't know if this information helps or not, but the next time I see Bobby
I will ask her if Elizabeth was a relative.
Good luck with your search,
Nancy Rush

Hello from San Francisco,
I was unable to figure how to reply to the replies to my first posting....
but maybe I am not supposed to! At any rate I just wanted to thank all of
you for being so responsive helpful and warm. At a minmum I am needing to
rethink Thatcher's story as it is clear from his obit that he lived in
Indiana from 1943 onwards and he had been married to Elizabeth Maxine Green
for 48 years! So there is no way he could have operated the "T. Soule Jr."
art supply store here in the Bay Area from the 1950's to 1970. Who that
Soule was remains to be seen.
Even if the flow of info on Thatcher - or Thatch as he was called there in
UC - stops, I would be happy, with the only potential capper being a photo
if one emerges.
But for now, I just wanted to say thanks.
Steve Heimerle

Steve,
Just one more thought. The House of Flavors was on Pearl Street in Union
City, Indiana.
