I did some work recently and a fellow was reported missing in action during the civil war,
his wife had a child with him, waited 7 years to remarry. I ask the Randolph County
Clerk today about where you find documentation of declared death, and she said that it was
in her office, and would be in the civil court records during that time. She said that
often the wife would have to wait the 7 years, file the papers and would then have wait
another 8-9 months after the declartion to be able to marry again. She said it is not a
divorce but is similar to one in paper work and court appearances.
