Thanks for responding, Andrea
I hadn't thought to check obits primarily because I live out of state and I don't
have even a month to ask them to look for, and my past experience with libraries is that
most tend to require at least some kind of date range to check for thought I'm not
familiar with Randolph Co. library policies in this regard. I also hadn't thought to
check libraries because I'm not sure where he was living. He was born in Ohio,
somewhere, and married in Randolph Co. in 1885 so the lost 1890 census would have been the
first and only census showing him living here before his death in 1892. As I don't
live in the state, I haven't been able to check the land records yet to see if he had
purchased property and where that property would be.
However, it is good to know which libraries have copies of papers in the area so I could
at least check there to start, if nothing else.
Thanks,
Nikki

You could confirm possibly with an obit. Where did he live in Randolph
County? Winchester Public Library has Winchester Newspapers on microfilm.
Union City Library has Union City Newspapers on microfilm plus I believe
that year has been abstracted for a quick lookyloo. The Ridgeville Library
has the Ridgeville newspaper on microfilm but no way to get copies off of
it, you would need to get a copy from the Indiana State Library along with
any other county newspapers that were microfilmed. Most of the other
newspapers do not have a copy in the county at all. Washington Township
Library (Lynn) has a few clippings of the Lynn newspaper and it's not
organized, at least the last time I was in there. Winchester and Union City
Libraries will do look ups for you. Andrea
