Randolph County Obituaries 1900-1935 Vol. 1 & 2 pg, 130
Adaline Baber Smith was born in Darke Co., Ohio, July 24, 1830. In infancy she was left
without the care of father or mother, making her home with her Grandmother Speace until
womanhood, where she was united in marriage to Henry Smith sharing with him hardships,
trails, troubles and blessings of this life until eight years ago when his spirit passed
into another life. To this union was born eleven children, four preceding her in death.
In 1876 she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the church at
Mosier's School House soon afterward ,moving her membership to the Olive Branch
Christain Church of which she remained a faithful member until death called her to that
life of rest she labored for on the 15th day of August 1909, age 79 years and 21 days.
For several years Sister Smith had been afflicted, but she bore it with patience and
Christain fortitude.
She loved her family, she loved her friends, she had a sunshine welcome for all. She had
confidence in all professed Christains, and excepted some demonstrations of good from each
one, hence everyone had faith in her Christain profession, and it was an exception indeed
one did not go from her presence with a determination to make their life better, we shall
not forget her life's work though possibly sometimes rendered in childlike
imperfection. God looks on the heart and we rest assured that it can be truthfully said of
her "she hath done what she could."
Yes we will miss her, miss her kind counsel miss her loving greeting, miss her friendly
recognition, when passing the old home, but can we imagine that welcome awaiting us
intensified by the glories of the Celestial?
She leaves two son, five daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many relatives
and friends to mourn their loss.
Funeral from the New Dayton M.E. Church Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 9 a.m. conducted by Revs.
Zelma Johnson and Dek Judy. Lessons I Cor. Text I Cor 2:11. Interment in Bear Creek
Cemetery.
