Hi Karen,
Thanks for helping! I have the same book. At least, I think I do. I have
the second edition. My father has the first edition.
I had someone who is also a descendent of Charles Shockney contact me. She
is trying to join DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). We have proof
that Patrick fought in the Revolution (pension rolls, etc). But we can't
find any official documentation that Charles was Patrick's son. DAR wants
something legal, a will or something similar.
Charles' older brother John (1790-1871) has descendents listed on DAR's
website. I wonder if we can establish a link between Charles and John?

Hi Vince:
I can probably help you a great deal as I have a book published in 2005 by
one of the Shockney descendants that gives the history of the Patrick
Shockney family from 1752-2005. It contains pictures as well. The Charles
Shockney on whom you are seeking information is, in fact, listed as the son
of this Patrick Shockney. The book lists Shockney descendants and pertinent
information.
I am going to attach pages about Patrick that are at the beginning of the
book. This should give you documentation. If you have some way of sending
me your 2,300 names, I can check them for accuracy by using the book. There
are over 500 pages; so, it would be impossible for me to copy the entire
thing and I think this book is now out of distribution. Its title is "The
Legacy of Patrick Shockney and Family...1752-2005" Published by: Elizabeth
Swank Frazier.
I don't mind helping you at all as over the years people in Randolph County
have been kind enough to do the same for me.

Hello all,
I'm new to the list and genealogy in general. It's nice to know that
there
is a place to ask for help. I began looking into genealogy after
learning
that Shockney is a somewhat unique surname. Through Ancestry I have
learned
a lot (2300+ names in tree), but have failed at one thing. I'm looking
for
documentation that Charles Shockney (1797-1863) was s/o Patrick Shockney
(1752-1827). Where do I start?
Thanks,
Vince
