Subject: Re: [INRANDOL] Anyone in INRANDOL living near library in Randolph Co?
I believe that Lynn had a local newspaper at that time, the library in Lynn
(aka Washington Twp Library) has snippets but not full newspapers...so I
would seek to borrow microfilm from the Indiana State Library, your local
library can help you order those through them.
I am not sure what all that library does have on hand, they do have a
genealogy room, and it's been several years since I was in there. I've been
aiming to go there and check it out anyway. They have short hours. Noon to
5 during the week, not sure if they are open on Saturdays or not.
County wide directories - The Winchester Library has the 1908, 1965 and 1966
(?). Union City Library has 1908 and 1912/13. I have a digital copy of the
1908 and a paper copy of the 1912. I'm not aware of other county wide
directories as of right now. I'm sure Lynn area had their own but have any
been saved is a good question.
Not sure about the school records, I would think the WTLibrary would have
some there. There are a few at the County Historic Museum but access will
likely not be given unless you go through Greg Hinshaw. You can write to
him via the Randolph Central School Corp. He is the County Historian and
the superintendent for the school corp. There are some pictures of grads at
the museum not sure what years, again you will need to talk with Greg. I
would hope that there would be more available at the WTLibrary or even
through Randolph Southern School Corp which absorbed Spartanburg School.
There was at least 2 years where they did an all county high school year
book, not sure what years off the top of my head, but I did find them
on-line somewhere when I did see them. Might have been through Ancestry.
About the right time period but just not sure of those years. :(
I have posted some photos of the school on my facebook group Randolph County
Indiana History. The school caught fire almost 2 years ago not, and is a
gutted shell.
There still many Chenoweth's around. I'd suggest that you contact the two
churches in Spartanburg and see if you can get a family connection there,
someone from the family might have things to share with you :)
You should contact the Court House to see about land records in order to see
their progress into the county. The reason why they would move here would
be work and family like most. Seeking a new and better life for their
children.
As far as the scandal....that's as old as time, no one here is going to
judge. Andrea I have a copy of the Robinson's 1972 Randolph County, Indiana
Directory and would be happy to do lookups for anyone needing information from it. Tony
