Does anyone know the hours and days of the week for the Randolph Co Historical Society in
order to go do genealogy research. Also who is in charge of the records now and are they
still located where the museum is located? I haven't been for a few years so
wasn't sure what changes have been made.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

I'm searching for more information about these families who were in Randolph
Co in 1850. My husband's line moved to MO by 1870. Specifically I'm
searching for the parents of Tabitha Johnson born c1819 supposedly in
Richmond VA who married Nathan Edwards b 1812 NC.
I'm also looking for parents of Permelia Hobbs Leslie/Lasley who died in
Randolph Co in 1850. She was the wife of Isaac Leslie s/o Peter.
Sincerely,
Vickie Miller

Hello all,
I'm new to the list and genealogy in general. It's nice to know that there
is a place to ask for help. I began looking into genealogy after learning
that Shockney is a somewhat unique surname. Through Ancestry I have learned
a lot (2300+ names in tree), but have failed at one thing. I'm looking for
documentation that Charles Shockney (1797-1863) was s/o Patrick Shockney
(1752-1827). Where do I start?
Thanks,
Vince

Hi Karen,
Thanks for helping! I have the same book. At least, I think I do. I have
the second edition. My father has the first edition.
I had someone who is also a descendent of Charles Shockney contact me. She
is trying to join DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). We have proof
that Patrick fought in the Revolution (pension rolls, etc). But we can't
find any official documentation that Charles was Patrick's son. DAR wants
something legal, a will or something similar.
Charles' older brother John (1790-1871) has descendents listed on DAR's
website. I wonder if we can establish a link between Charles and John?

Hi Vince:
I can probably help you a great deal as I have a book published in 2005 by
one of the Shockney descendants that gives the history of the Patrick
Shockney family from 1752-2005. It contains pictures as well. The Charles
Shockney on whom you are seeking information is, in fact, listed as the son
of this Patrick Shockney. The book lists Shockney descendants and pertinent
information.
I am going to attach pages about Patrick that are at the beginning of the
book. This should give you documentation. If you have some way of sending
me your 2,300 names, I can check them for accuracy by using the book. There
are over 500 pages; so, it would be impossible for me to copy the entire
thing and I think this book is now out of distribution. Its title is "The
Legacy of Patrick Shockney and Family...1752-2005" Published by: Elizabeth
Swank Frazier.
I don't mind helping you at all as over the years people in Randolph County
have been kind enough to do the same for me.

Hi,
?
I am looking for any data about Thomas Jarrett born about 1823 in Virginia (census
records) and died after 1862 in Randolph County. He married Pauline (Perlina) Monger in
1845 in Randolph County.
I need a death date and maybe an obituary to see who his parents were. Thomas is my
4great grandfather.
?
Thomas Jarrett's son, Clarence Jarrett, married Maria Bennett Taylor in 1877 in
Deerfield, Randolph County.
?
Maria Bennett Taylor's parents were George Rozell Taylor 1814 - 30 Mar 1876 ?and
Margaret Nesmith 1818 - ?. Both died in Randolph County. I have no idea where they are
buried or when Margaret died (I think she died after George died).
?
The Taylor family were Quakers.
?
I would welcome any help or ideas of where to look for any data.
?
Thanks,
Carole?

If I were you, I would contact Tom Hamm and have him look through the Quaker records for
your line. tomh(a)earlham.edu is his e-mail. Tom is the custodian of Quaker records that
are stored at the Lilly Library located at Earlham College in Richmond, IN.
Good luck. Andrea
